Indoor Fun Activities To Do With Kids
When the weather is inclement and you do not know what to do with the kids to keep them busy, I hope these few ideas will help you to entertain them.
Design a treasure hunt - Make a series of envelopes labelled clearly with clues inside leading to a treasure which could be the choice of two different activities they could get to choose from when they finish the hunt
Bake fairy cakes - Ice and decorate, then have a tea party for family and friends
Setup an indoor camping site draping sheets over chairs and tables
Make Origami birds and more - Here are some instructions
Do a puzzle, set it up on a table and have fun over a few days completing the puzzle
Paint a picture - choose a theme and get everyone to paint their idea of that picture
Dress Up and have a pantomime using mom and dad's clothes
Play board games - get each family member to choose their favorite game and enjoy a day of games with action things to do between each game
Build houses with playing cards - find all the packs of cards you can and let everyone build card towers or house villages
Make paper hats - pull out magazine pages and either fold paper hats or sticky tape some together to make hats
Play Simons Says - thats self explanatory
Play pass the parcel - wrap up a gift with many layers of paper, put on some music and pass the parcel from one to the next. When the music stops the person holding the parcel gets to remove a layer of paper. When the parcel is completely unwrapped, the person holding the unwrapped gift is the winner
Make a Button and String toy whizzer - Cut a piece of string about 2 ft long. Get a biggish button and thread the string through the one hole and then loop round and through the returning hole. Tie the two ends together. Center the button and then holding each end in your fingers, twist the button and create an accordion style whizzer.
Make sock puppets - find those odd socks and make faces and have a puppet show
Play Freeze
Play musical "chairs" with sheets of paper or magazines - instead of using chairs, take sheets of paper and lay them in a circle and then each child starts off sitting on a piece of paper, play a snippet of music remove a sheet of paper and when the music stops each child should sit on a piece of paper. The one child with no paper sits out. The last one with a sheet to sit on, wins
Make a dream board with cutouts from magazines - find some magazines give each child a blunt nose pair of scissors, a sheet of paper or a cardboard sheet and a glue stick. Let them cut out things they like or would like to do etc and glue them onto their board.
Have an indoor picnic. Get a big tray, do a mix of food items and put them onto the tray eg orange quarters, little finger sandwiches, a pile of vegetable or other chips, a few cookies, popcorn, yoghurt cups, chicken pops and let the kids choose their favorite things to eat
Hope you have enjoyed having fun with the kids and that these games created some great memories.
