The Bonus Room
There are many wonderful uses for that bonus room, but so often they end up being a place that is used for discarding all the excess furniture and "stuff" from the house. Although it is lovely to have a bonus room - you must stage it nicely and make it the bonus money too!
To make it a really useful space make sure that it feels like a loved part of the house. Paint it and repair the 'broken' items so that it looks fresh and clean.
Define the Usage of The Bonus Room
- Use rugs to define different areas of the room - e.g. Rug for the sewing room, rug for the kiddies play area, rug for the theatre room,
- Use shelves or book shelves to divide spaces
- Paint different sections in different but complementary colors
- Room dividers or screens are also perfect usage definers
Declutter The Room
- The room needs to be nice and airy
- If there is too much furniture, remove half and reposition the existing
- Use baskets and shelving to manage clutter
- Put systems in place to manage the clutter so that it doesn't become a useless space once again
Add Some Color
Because the bonus room can often be a little dark, don't forget to add some cheerful colour. If you are using it as a family tv room then add some color scatter cushions. If its for your office space, put up a colorful picture or notice board.
That bonus room can be that wonderful space that might just add a sizeable chunk to your selling price when you are selling your home.
If you are considering selling - I would love to list your home. I am local, love my work and get great referral business, which speaks louder than words ever could.
